Limo Dontated to Hospice Patient
It’s always nice when people get together to help those less fortunate than themselves. Surrounded by flowers and balloons, Kamika Butler received a party any new teenager would be happy to have — especially one battling a serious illness, because Kamika is a hospice patient.
Kamika, who has been diagnosed with Rhinocerebral Mucormycosis, celebrated her 13th birthday with family, friends and caregivers from Tender Loving Care Hospice during a party at ‘Subway’ in the Warwood shopping centre.
Rhinocerebral Mucormycosis is a rare and rapidly progressive infection that targets the sinuses and the brain. Butler has undergone multiple, extensive neurological surgeries that have unfortunately resulted in long-term disabilities since her diagnosis last August. But on Saturday, the Warwood community and the hospice staff had a full day of celebratory activities planned.
A limousine transported Kamika, along with her 14-year-old sister Kenisha and their mother, Nancy McCarthy, to Total E-Clips salon for some pampering. There the sisters were surprised with a complete, donated care package which included a shampoo, haircut and style as well as a manicure and pedicure for each of them.
Locals donated everything, to make the birthday celebration a special occasion. Presents included the donated limo ride, pink roses, balloons, and meals for all, even the birthday cake! A gold bracelet from a local jeweller was one of Kamika’s favourite gifts. Individuals in the community donated a total of $500, including movie passes and other various gift vouchers.
